Invitation Wording for New Years Eve Party Cards
Invitation wording for new years eve party cards that names times, kids, countdown and RSVP, with family lines for an early toast and midnight.
Write the invitation so a guest can answer four things without calling you: when it starts and ends, whether children are invited, what the countdown is, and how to reply. Paperless Post says a New Year's Eve invite should include the whole time frame, a note if guests may bring family or little ones, a specific dress code, what to bring if it is a potluck, and an RSVP line. Aim to send invites 4–8 weeks ahead, and ask for replies at least two weeks before the night, or one week if your plan is flexible. That is their hosting guidance, from a card seller. The lines below are the family card: an early kids' countdown and a midnight toast on the same invite.

Details guests ask about
What should I write in a New Year's Eve invitation? Put these on the card, in this order. Keep only the lines your party needs.
- Host names, so people know whose door it is.
- Date. If you are not gathering on New Year's Eve itself, say so in the first line. Paperless Post puts the date front and center when the party is on another day, so nobody arrives on the wrong night.
- Start and finish. A start alone leaves people guessing whether they should leave after midnight. Their guide asks for the entire time frame.
- Who is welcome, including children. "Kids welcome" is a full sentence. So is "adults only, so you can book a sitter."
- The countdown: early, midnight, or both. A noon party is a different event. Paperless Post's kids sample is a Noon Year's Eve, counting down to noon, from morning until early afternoon. That is clear timing for a daytime party. It is not the evening card above.
- Dress, if it matters. Be specific. Their dress note is blunt: nobody wants to be in casual clothes at a formal party, or in a tuxedo among Hawaiian shirts.
- What to bring, if you want dishes or drinks. Otherwise say you have snacks covered.
- Reply line, with a date or a name to text.

A short message
How to write a simple invitation message? What is a short and effective invitation message for an event? Use the short house line, or the line that asks for a glass count. A short message still needs the place, the countdown, and the reply. Humor can be the hook and still leave those facts off the card, which is how guests end up texting you.
The Smilebox wording samples have no RSVP line and no countdown time. They are strong on tone: casual lines such as a hang at the house, formal lines such as a request for the honor of your company, and jokes about surviving the old year. Borrow a tone if you like it. Then add the four facts from the list above. Smilebox is a vendor page about its own cards; it shows sample sentences, not a family countdown card.
Catchy phrases that still name the time
How to write invitation quotes? What are some catchy phrases to use in an invitation? How do you write a catchy invitation? What is a catchy invitation phrase? A quote is the first line. The facts are the lines under it. Catchy phrases you can put on a New Year's Eve card:
- Two toasts, one living room.
- Come for the kids' countdown, stay if you can.
- Sparkling juice in hand, new year ahead.
- Out with the old year, in with our couch.
- Reply early; the couch fills up.
Smilebox says that if you have a theme, snacks, or games, mention them in a casual invite. That is the right instinct. A phrase that hides the countdown is a poster, not an invitation.
Plain wording for a proper invite
What is the proper wording for an invite? Hosts, date, place, hours, who may come, reply. The Chen family line is the formal close. The glass-count line opens with "You are invited." Both are proper if the facts are on the card. You do not need a ballroom voice for a living room.
Paperless Post's grown-ups-only note is worth copying in spirit: send those invites early enough that parents can find a sitter. Say "adults only" on the card so they know why.
From lines to a printed card
The New Year's Eve Party Invitation download includes an offline invitation file (one HTML file) where you type host, date, time, address, countdown, RSVP and a note once and both cards on the sheet repeat it, on a computer with Chrome or Microsoft Edge. It prints two 5 × 7 in cards with crop marks on US Letter or A4, and the download also has write-in cards to fill by hand, a filled sample sheet and a guide. It is $8.00, with room on the card for host 2 lines, date 1, time 1, address 2, countdown 2, note 3 and RSVP 2.
Sample lines are starting points. A line that will not fit that room should be cut before you print.
